01. How do we make an appointment?

We need a referral from you GP (family doctor) who will be able to help you decide if Katie is the right specialist for your child’s needs. We will then email you questionnaires that need to be filled out and returned before you will be given an appointment. If your child attends childcare of some sort or school and this is relevant to the referral question from you GP, we have questionnaires that we need them to fill in, too.

02. Who will Katie see?

Katie sees children with all sorts of general health, development, behaviour and learning problems right from newborn through to teenagers. If Katie thinks that she is not the best specialist for you to see she will recommend another specialist who she thinks will be better able to help.

03. What should we bring?

It is helpful to bring your Well Child (Plunket) Book if you can find it. Any reports that you have from other health or education professionals are also very useful – if you send these ahead of time with your questionnaires Katie will have a chance to read them more fully. You may also want to bring a book or a device if you have an older child who you want to sit in the waiting room while you discuss more sensitive issues with the specialist.

04. Who should come to the appointment?

Katie needs to see each child/young person with a caregiver who knows them best and who can make health and education decisions for them. Usually, but not always, this is a parent. It is really helpful to have both parents present although we understand that this is not always possible. On our Family Information Pack there is room for the details of up to four parents/caregivers.

05. How much does it cost?

  • General Paediatrics, first appointment $484
  • Complex or Developmental/Behavioural, first appointment $726
  • Follow up $242
  • Complex follow up $484
  • Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2) assessment and feedback session $968
  • Prescriptions $45

06. What if we need to cancel?

Please let us know as soon as possible if you need to cancel so that other families can be offered your appointment time. If you do not notify us of your need to cancel or reschedule within a reasonable timeframe, we reserve the right to charge the full appointment cost.
